The simplest live edge nightstand is a cross-section of a large tree with legs attached. Sanded, with finish applied for easy cleaning and care, it makes an exceptionally attractive piece to add to your bedscape. However, you can extend its usefulness by supporting the live edge piece with an older cabinet that has been heavily distressed, or you can create a cabinet using live edge wood pieces. Of course, finding one already made is much easier.
Another version of the live edge nightstand is the tree stump stool. This is made using a large cross-section of a tree or a central lengthwise cut and supporting it with -- you guessed it -- a tree stump that has been carefully cleaned, sawed so that it will set level, sanded, and had finish added. As you might guess, this takes some searching for exactly the right pieces to use. A third method is to support a live edge wood piece with industrial metal legs or tree limb legs. Any way you go about it, a live edge nightstand will support your connection to the natural world. You could add a driftwood lamp with a natural color loose weave shade to complete the look.
